Affordable Performance Trike
The Ice S is a great new fast touring trike from ICE. Its frame is based on the championship winning Trice XXL, the most popular ultra fast trike in the ICE stable. The Ice S is a low, laid back, ultra fast machine. It is as at home on the race track as it is on a long tour or an ultra-endurance Audax event. Some people say that this is not an easy machine to get on or off. In our experience, once people have sampled the S’s delights on the road, they don’t want to get off!
S stands for Sport and this trike will appeal to those out for a bit of a blast. Indeed you could say that’s what it was designed for. This machine carves its way through corners with the confidence of a thoroughbred. Its hard shell seat holds you firmly in place so that you can concentrate on keeping the pedals turning. ICE are fitting a European made seat to the Ice S as standard; it is not the same carbon-fibre seat made by ICE for the Trice range, but it is very comfortable and it has proven itself to us in testing.
A performance trike of this standard combined with the low price is previously unheard of. If it’s all out performance you are looking for, then you won’t shy away from the bright orange sparkle paint job. People will notice you as you fly by.
The ICE S is the next development on from the Q and T bringing a highly sport orientated option to the ICE budget range. Just some of the hand crafted features of this model are:
- The seat is adjustable for recline angle and the cover can be adjustable to fit you perfectly.
- To maximise the aerodynamic advantage of recumbents you need to lie back. This is what the hard shell seat allows you to do. If you want to go very fast you need a solid platform for efficient power production and you cannot beat a hard shell seat for that. The body- hugging shape can be further personalised if necessary with the set of pads supplied with each machine.
- The frame adjusts to suit different leg lengths and the handlebars can be moved to a position that best suits you, so you get the benefit of personally tuned comfort.
- The frame separates into small sections for easy long distance transportation.
- The frame is hand built from the finest steels available (T45 and Columbus Cro-Mo) in the UK by ICE’s expert frame builders.
- ICE’s world-leading steering geometry with no brake steer for safe stopping from any speed.
- Steering that turns on taper roller bearing headsets not plain bushes.
Ultra-reliable Sturmey Archer Drum brakes bring these machines to a stop. You will be very surprised with their performance. Drum brakes don’t squeal when they are wet and because they are dry all the time they bite more quickly in the rain. They are practically zero maintenance, and never likely to require replacement pads. There is no weight penalty compared with the average disc brake, and they are cleaner and safer than a rotating disc. A very handy parking brake button is included on both brake levers.
