Touring performance over the long haul
Designing a recumbent trike requires a balancing of competing goals. Performance versus comfort. Quality versus cost.
Of all tricycles you may look at, consider the Catrike Expedition as perhaps one of the best compromises that performs without compromise.
The seat height and angle are exactly where most people will be most comfortable.
With its 26" rear wheel, the gearing is perfect for most uses -- slightly higher than the gearing of a mountain bike. On the front, standard 20" front wheels give you a HUGE tire selection, and nimble handling for the longer wheelbase trike.
The stiffness of the frame gives you the efficiency you want, yet the larger rear wheel yields to provide comfort over rough roads.
Light, strong, efficient, comfortable, cost-effective.... What more can you ask?
At PBW, we offer the Catrike Expedition with our custom-made locking parking brake levers installed at no additional cost. Add this to the standard upgrades on an Expedition (neck-rest, Terracycle idler, useful seat pockets, and computer sensor), and we think you will agree that the Expedition is likely all you might need in a trike.
We keep the Expedition in stock with bar-end shifters, though you can get it at a discount with twist-shifters.
